DPS Officer 1s are trainees that use their academy training as a foundation to acquire the remaining knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform law enforcement duties as DPS Officer 2. You will progress to the next level upon meeting minimum qualifications, demonstrating satisfactory performance, and receiving a recommendation from your appointing authority.
This recruitment will be used to establish an eligible list for current and future DPS Officer positions in Las Vegas, Boulder City, Indian Springs, Jean, Henderson, Laughlin, Mesquite, Pahrump, and Pioche.

This recruitment is for candidates who possess CAT 1 POST certification, but do not have one full year of law enforcement experience. Candidates needing P.O.S.T. certification and academy training are encouraged to apply for our DPS Officer Cadet posting; North or South. DPS OFFICER I 1. Upon successful graduation from a Nevada Commission on P.O.S.T. approved law enforcement academy will work under close supervision as a trainee within the agency to which assigned. 2. Receive field training in the job duties of a DPS Officer II. 3. Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required at the previous level, AND: Knowledge of: • Traffic and public safety laws and practices. Skill in: • Use of firearms and defensive tactics. Ability to: • Communicate effectively with individuals of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds; establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with others; coordinate activities with other law enforcement agencies; conduct interviews; organize information and data; make presentations.
