Position Overview:

Looking for a rock star to join our team that is highly organized and self-motivated, able to multitask without sacrificing accuracy to work full (37.5 to 40 hrs a week) or part-time (30-35 hrs per week) in a small established law firm in the Ocean City, Maryland area. Candidate must have prior legal experience, a background in handling all basic administrative tasks in a professional office setting, and ability to provide excellent customer service in a professional environment. The ideal candidate is proactive, efficient, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Candidates with prior estate planning/trusts and estates background is a plus. Pay is negotiable based on experience.

Job Purpose:
To assist attorneys in all administrative tasks and daily operations of the business while providing excellent customer service and representing the law firm to the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, format, and proofread legal documents and correspondence
  • Manage attorney calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate deadlines
  • File legal documents with courts (e-filing and physical filing as required)
  • Maintain and organize case files and records
  • Conduct basic legal research and gather case-related information
  • Communicate with clients, court personnel, and third parties professionally
  • Assist with trial preparation, including exhibits and documentation
  • Handle administrative tasks such as billing support and data entry

Candidates must be able to multitask to manage multiple projects and responsibilities, to meet deadlines and to successfully perform without being micromanaged.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred; paralegal certificate a plus (will substitute experience for education)
  • 1-2+ years of experience as a legal assistant or in a similar role with legal background
  • Knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and documentation
  • Highly proficient in computer skills such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Westlaw, internet research/AI
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask without sacrificing attention to detail
  • Works well under pressure and meet deadlines with minimal oversight
  • Familiarity with e-filing systems and court procedures
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
